DJ, artist, Producer AND Label Owner
Jason Skilz is a sound artist, DJ, and label curator based in Ottawa and Toronto. His DJ sets and live performances as Transmit experiment with elements of techno, disco, house, noise and industrial music.
Originally from the East Coast, Jason began playing at early raves and club nights, eventually throwing innovative events in Montreal and Ottawa such as art and DJ event Spins and Needles, the minimal techno night Techcetera, and noise and performance monthly Not Normal. His musical influences range from Public Enemy, Crass, Tackhead, Zoviet France, Skinny Puppy, heavy metal and early techno labels like Plus 8, Tresor and Disko B records. Several of these sounds can be heard in his experimental and forward leaning live sets and DJ mixes.
Beyond music, Jason engages creative communities with partner Melanie Yugo, through initiatives such as the independent creative space and studio Possible Worlds, the Object // Project Art Fair, and Low Noise Productions, an independent cassette label featuring over 50+ local and international artists with close to 100 releases.
